Grand Total

After going through three 5 gallon buckets from a creek in the next town over and all the paydirt that has been bought i have accumulated 2.77 grams worth of the much wanted GOLD. I have recently found out that my aunts husbands son is living on an active claim and has invited me to come and try my luck at his back yard.

Just this last week we had a nice snowfall that in turn will deposit lots of that gold into the streams
for everyone to snag. I am hoping that I will get a good amount from this wonderful snow fall

As you can tell my dogs are loving the wonderful powder that we randomly got. here in the valley, our average snow fall per year is around 3 inches and just in one night we had 6.5 inches and it snowed another 1.5 inches the next night. So hopefully it snowed even more where the gold bearing creeks are to help push the gold into open water for us to put in our pans.

So until next time, keep panning until the last grain of the black sand has fallen!

Felix Paydirt

My wonderful parents got me a Felix Paydirt, 2 pound bag of dirt. They have purchased dirt from him in the past, and were pleased with the quality. Though His prices have skyrocketed my wonderful parents still bought me a bag, and I too can see why they used to buy from him. The dirt itself was easy to pan through and had lots of gold within it. I worked on the bag for about 45 minutes sifting out all the big rocks from the dirt and ran across a nice size picker.

I have not weighed the piece yet but it feels heavy. So I found a couple other pieces that aren't as big but still nice. Then I started going through the smaller material and found lots of flakes. Here is everything I found within the bag (minus the 1905 penny)

Start of 2012

Though I havent posted like I said I would, I did do some fishing in 2010 and 2011. The year 2010 was a decent year of fishing. I did quite a bit if fishing along the main river and the local community park. I noticed lots of fish were released into the park. this is the year that the two pole permits were released to the public. i has lots of fun being able to use this feature. caught lots of rainbow trout.
Now last year, in 2011, fishing wasn't the top of my list. I did get into a new hobby. GOLD PROSPECTING. Yup. I somehow got Gold Fever. Nearly killed me. until i was going through some of the dirt we had stored in our back yard from several years ago when we were all able to go south and collect dirt from a gold bearing creek. the buckets were starting to fall apart. so I decide to dig out the good ol gold pan and pan through the dirt. To my surprise there was gold hidden in the buckets.
My buddy did get me to go fishing at one of his fishing spots. I was able to get my pontoon out and float around. we caught lots of big mouth bass. but other than that I haven't done much but work. I was able to find a job closer to home, with full time hours. Here, that is a feat in itself.

So, I am turning Zonkers Fishing Blog into not just a fishing Blog, but an Outdoors Blog. So Welcome 2012, and may you be a great year!

end of the year report

Sorry folks. I know i promised to keep up on the blogging. I fell short on my word. i dodnt do much fishing this year. I moved to the next town over. i will try to get more photos next year. i did buy myself a pontoon boat and wader to get in those "hard to get spots". I know for sure that i will be doing more trout fishing for sure.

I will always take that extra moment to remember our good ol friend Dave. especially when im fishing in our favorite carp hole. i am hoping to get a new and better camera than what i have. on my first time with my pontoon. i dropped my phone and camera in the lake. (oops) they both still work. but not so well.

Here it is coming into winter and the fish are "sleeping". I will keep a better eye out on the coments. Hope everyone haves a happy holiday and new year. and i will talk to you guys later. HAPPY FISHING!

First run of the year

Our once lively fishing hole is now calm and shallow, quiet and somewhat peaceful. But, i noticed it was too peaceful. I only spent an hour and a half but i didn't see any carp in sight. The only noise was from a pair of ducks that kept playing in the water, splashing each other, like toddlers in the kiddy pool. So, i decided to put a popper on, and see if i could rouse some bluegills up, which also ended up with no bites or anything. i finally called it quits for the evening as I was getting hungry. Who know maybe another week or so of this warm sunny weather will kick those carp into spawning gear as for after that, it will be a fun time catching them. Well until next time....

The Begining

Hello Everyone!
Welcome to the new Zonkers Fishing Page. This blog Will be just like the one Dave did and will be done with the gentleness and care like Dave had. Dave lived until March 22, 2009. He was one hell of a man and he will be missed.

Just to introduce myself. My name is Josh and I was Dave's Fishing partner here in Eugene. This new page will be the same layout as the old one and will have great pictures and posts. i will enjoy being able to bring you the news of the fish and I hope you enjoy the New Fishing Year. good luck and have fun but most of all be safe.
